Creative circularity in action
Dominik Kerék

Creative circularity in action. That is the core of Dominik Kerek’s work, a HZ student nominated as Changemaker for his broad commitment within HZ and UCR in the field of sustainability, circularity, and community building.
Playful and creative
From the Green Office and the Scheldt Youth Parliament, Dominik works on projects that strengthen greening, organic food, and collaboration between students.
What distinguishes Dominik is his playful and creative way of addressing complex topics such as circularity. He does not stop at ideas, but actively turns them into practice and brings others along with him. For example, he experiments with growing oyster mushrooms on HZ coffee grounds, develops circular objects such as a “grass couch,” and initiates projects around local and plant-based food. In doing so, he makes sustainability tangible and visible in everyday life.
Participation and experience
Connection also plays an important role in his work. Dominik actively brings HZ and UCR students together around sustainable projects, creating a shared community in which collaboration and knowledge sharing are central. Through this bridging role, not only does collaboration between institutions increase, but also a stronger sense of shared responsibility emerges.
The impact of his initiatives lies in the combination of creativity, participation, and experience. Sustainability becomes not just something to talk about, but something to do, experience, and celebrate together. Think of shared cooking evenings with local products or pop-up food events where food, music, and stories about origin come together.
Joy and connection
Dominik shows that circularity is not only about efficiency or necessity, but also about joy and connection. By approaching sustainability in an accessible and social way, he actively involves people in change.
With his approach, he proves that creative circularity can grow into a powerful way of collaborating and living together, in which ideas are not only conceived, but also shared, built, and experienced.
