Cycling in The Netherlands, share a bike and second hand bikes

Shared bike with OV-Fiets

The OV-fiets is a very easy and flexible ways to travel with a shared bike.

It’s ideal for short trips around the city.

To use an OV-fiets, you need:

  • A personal OV-chipkaart (see chapter 8)
  • A free OV-fiets subscription linked to your card (or an NS Flex subscription)

You can activate the subscription online via: NS OV-fiets.

Once activated, you can rent a bike directly at the station by scanning your OV-chipkaart at the rental point.

Good to know

  • The OV-fiets costs around €4.80 per 24 hours
  • You return the bike to the same station
  • You can rent up to 2 bikes with one subscription
  • There is no annual subscription fee (only a €0.01 verification payment)

  • Vlissingen Station
  • Middelburg Station
  • Vlissingen Souburg Station
  • Arnemuiden Station

In cities like Middelburg and Vlissingen, the OV-fiets is often faster and more convenient than public transport, especially for short distances.
