Grow with us Each student's personal development is important to HZ. To ensure that they can continue to develop, we offer various activities. Think about culture (visiting museums, watching films, taking city trips), sports and vitality (joining HZ sports association, sustainability or joining one of our student associations). Our students are also involved in all kinds of initiatives. At HZ, various activities are organised by students. This keeps you in touch with your fellow students outside school as well.
Contributing to a better world At HZ, we encourage our students to contribute to a better world, explore cultures, social issues, broaden your knowledge or meet new people. Within the HZ Community there are various activities in which everyone can participate during their time as a student.
Student associations
HZ is not only about studying and improving oneself, it is also important to have fun! Student associations are place to socialise outside study hours, make friends and let off steam. Have a drink in the student bar, or how about a sports tournament? The HZ has two student associations: Aqua ad Vinum and Marum Bibio.
Our campuses
HZ has three locations where you can study and socialise: the Edisonweg in Vlissingen, and Het Groene Woud and Joint Research Center Zeeland (JRCZ) in Middelburg. Depending on the course you take, you will often have lectures at one of the locations. But did you know that you are welcome everywhere to study or socialise outside your lectures? We show you the best places.
Vlissingen
This campus hosts HZ’s business, management, maritime and social programmes. It offers modern lecture halls, study areas and social spaces where students from around the world connect. With student housing nearby, a sports centre and the beach just minutes away, it’s the perfect place to live and study!

HZ Shop
HZ Shop is the place to be for a nice (iced) coffee. Here students can also get useful school supplies and HZ merchandise.
Catering
The place to enjoy the wide variety of freshly made sandwiches, soups and warm snacks. Next to the catering there is a large seating area to have lunch or play a round of table tennis.
Silence booths for studying
When in need to really focus, the quiet rooms on the first floor of the L Building and on the second floor of the A Building are perfect. You can connect your laptop to a screen, control the brightness of the light and work in true silence.
HZ Garden
There are weekly garden sessions in the HZ Garden to get their hands dirty and relax. The fresh produce and herbs that are grown here are also used in the restaurant.
Podcast space
In need to record a podcast for a project? At The Studio students will find all the equipment they need!
HZ Cafe
HZ Cafe is the perfect place for enjoying lunch or work together on a project. The weekly gathering on Friday afternoon also takes place here.
Community Hub
Where students can gather with their friends for games, chatting or a presentation in the small theatre.
Sporting fields
We value the importance of physical exercise.
During breaks, students can play some soccer, volleyball or even Jeu de Boules right on campus!
Middelburg
The campus in Middelburg hosts most of HZ's technical programmes. It offers a modern learning environment, study areas and social spaces where students from around the world connect. The campus is right next to the city center and with the Joint Research Center Zeeland as neighbour it's the perfect place to study.

Study corners
For students in need of a quite place to concentrate on their work we have study corner on the second floor, where they can study in peace with a nice view of the Vlissings Stadsgewest. Students can focus here on their own, but there is also enough space to meet up with their study group.
Restaurant
The restaurant at the HZ location on Het Groene Woud offers tasty sandwiches, snacks or salads with a Green Key label. As much of the food as possible is organic, fair trade and comes from the region. Healthy for you and the world. Students can also enjoy meeting fellow classmates or teachers here.
HZ Shop
At the HZ Shop students can buy useful school supplies and HZ merchandise. Here they can also get a nice coffee or iced latte.
Living room
In the cosy living room, students can read a book from the little library, hangout with friends or work together on a group project.
Open Learning Centre
The Open Learning Centre is the perfect place to work on a group project, get some studying done on the computers or play a game of table tennis!
Outdoor terrace
Students can enjoy the sunshine on the outdoor terrace that is located right outside of the restaurant. Play some games, eat their lunch and take in the lovely view of the Bolwerk.
Joint Research Center Zeeland
Joint Research Center Zeeland (JRCZ) in the heart of Middelburg is a unique research institution. Students and researchers conduct research together on important issues from the region. Students from the technological study programmes regularly use the state-of-the art labs.
Makerspaces
In the makerspaces of the JRCZ, It is possible socialise and study. These common spaces can be found on every floor of the JRCZ.
Chemistry lab
For chemical analysis and in-depth research. Here students have the most modern equipment and latest techniques at their disposal.
Data Science lab
State-of-the-art computers, large, modern 3D video walls and the latest technologies ensure that students can carry out their studies to the best of their ability. The lab also has plenty of space to relax and catch up with each other.
Engineering lab
The Engineering lab is equipped with the latest technology so students can work on real life problems with researchers.
Biobased Building lab
In the Biobased Building lab students can test the strength and resistance of biobased materials.
Ecology lab
Questions from companies and institutions in the fields of water and food are examined in the Ecology lab.
