About the programme

You have a talent for organising events, you are creative and you easily connect with other people, even when it is in another language, or when they have a different cultural background. You are customer-oriented and therefore know how to respond well to your guest’s wishes. This allows you to develop a strategic vision for the organisation you work for. Whether this is about making destinations or events more sustainable, personnel policy or marketing a product or service. During your studies, you will have the opportunity to specialise in various areas. For example, dive into tourism combined with health. What is the added value of wellness or yoga for an organisation? But you can also become a pioneer in the field of gastronomy and food trends. You will have plenty of space to choose a direction that suits you. Are you coming to study Tourism Management at HZ in Vlissingen? Welcome, bienvenue, willkommen.

Boulevard Vlissingen

Strategic coastal location

HZ is located in Zeeland, one of the Netherlands’ top coastal tourism regions. The region’s strong focus on tourism and hospitality offers plenty of opportunities to connect with local businesses and build a global network from the start of your studies.

Customize your studies by choosing a minor, internship and organise a study trip

You have plenty of opportunities to customise your Tourism Management degree at HZ. You can choose a minor that matches your specialisation or explore a different area within the field, either in the Netherlands or abroad – and most students take this chance to study internationally. There’s also the option to organise a study trip with your classmates, where you take full responsibility for planning the destination, programme, and logistics, earning extra credits in the process. Even in your graduation phase, you have flexibility: you decide whether to focus more on academic research through your thesis, or gain practical experience through an extended management internship – or find the balance that works best for you.

Overview HZ minors

"I decided to come to the Netherlands because I wanted to be in an international environment, I wanted to study in English. And what I also like about HZ is that it’s more of a classroom feeling, so we’re about 30 to 40 people in one room, so it’s really personal. And you have the exchange with the teachers as well. With Tourism Management, we learn a lot about the different aspects that go into companies, so it could be HR related, it can be marketing related, and then obviously everything that goes into tourism. So destination development and all of that."

"On a day-to-day basis, Tourism Management is quite diverse. We work on a lot of group projects, have classes, but every week is different. We don't always have the same schedule and have quite a lot of free time, which is nice. So, we can arrange our own timing when working on projects. Sometimes we have exams, but it's not always the same, which makes it fun as well. With Tourism Management, I want to travel, explore the world. I think it's the best way to do it. You can really combine it well with your career and your personal kind of hobbies and passions."

Entry requirements
