Preface

What will you wear tomorrow? What would your lunch break with classmates be like? Starting your study programme in a new environment is exciting and at the same time SO much fun! At 24 years old, I was the oldest in the class. That took some getting used to, but I also enjoyed getting to know people of different ages and backgrounds.

Most of them still lived at home and some of them could soon be found at the student association every week. Some came from mbo, others straight from havo. All with their own previous education behind them, but all made a common choice: studying Communication at HZ.

Even in my later years of study at HZ, I looked forward to the first week of classes in September. The summer holidays had lasted long enough: we have to move on! Cycling to the bus station, boarding the bus for free and being dropped off right in front of HZ. Getting a tasty sandwich during the ample lunch break. And sticking around after class with the group of friends I had built up by then.

Now I work at the HZ. I still regularly get a sandwich from the lovely staff at HZ Catering. And I still walk through the vibrant atrium to have lunch with colleagues in the HZ Café. But to be honest, I do sometimes miss studying at HZ. The slight tension before a first day of classes, wondering which project group you have been assigned to. And the bus home that (with a bit of luck) stops exactly at the right moment for the HZ. My message for you is very cliché, but true: before you know it, it will be over. So enjoy a little.
